10 PS Plus Extra, Premium Games for May 2025 Announced

I wish that was a typo from me, but nope, there really is just 1 PS Plus Premium game for the month.

Might have been interested in "Gloomhaven Mercenaries Edition (PS5, PS4)" but I renewed on Essential. That said, it's just over a tenner on the PS Store.

They definitely gave up on the classics after sly3

I’m there for Gloomhaven but wow the rest is absolute tripe.

I wanted to try sand land so will give that a go.

Sand Land, STALKER, Story of Seasons, Granblue, Story of Seasons and Battlefield V - that’s a great selection I have been close to buying for a few months and all coming at once. Very happy.

Battle Engine Aquila is a game I had completely forgotten about! Also looking forward to checking that out again after all of these years.

Looking forward to Gloomhaven

This is a fantastic month for me. I skipped Sandland, Soul Hackers 2, and STALKER, hoping to add them to the to-do list one day, so now I have no excuse. Are they top tier? No. Are they aligned with my curiosity and interest in games that are of a 7/10 quality, yes!

Not the best month if it wasn't for my Portal not sure I would stick with Premium at this point!

@Traman500 I'm hoping it'll be the new enhanced version too; it says PS5, so maybe? Really wanna give it a go.

Not a great month, but I'm busy with Clair Obscur, so that's fine. I will play Sand Land. I was interested, but didn't want to buy it.

There's usually at least 1 game I'm excited for when this announcement comes out however this is a rare exception where there's nothing for me. This does allow me to go back into the everlasting back log and clear something out.

Not a great month and Im happy with what I get. Never look a horse in the mouth. Ill try Sandland.

Gloomhaven and PS5 Stalker is pretty good

Sand Land, Soul Hackers 2, GF Versus Rising, Humankind... a fair bunch of currently non-hybrid titles to possibly sample! And Aquila's gameplay description gives off select Strike series vibes. A pretty neat Catalogue month as far as I'm concerned.

There´s some decent stuff here, but only ONE game for Premium?!

soul hackers 2 I wanted to play this a while back so that's a welcome, I also want to try humankind, so that's 2 games I will give a go with

I only upgraded to premium because of a Black Friday deal. To be fair, Premium has actually saved me a lot of money. Many big games have trials that don't even need to be downloaded, you can stream them. This has put me off games I've nearly purchased on sale, like space Marine 2 and Alan Wake 2. It also helped me decide to get Hogwarts while it was under £20. The PSVR2 included games are great and have saved me loads also. Additions are slim but the catalogue on there (including PS3 steaming) and free movie access have been great for my wants.

No games for me, poor month. Although my backlog is as long as my arm so I'm not too furious!

As is too often the case, the only game I'm interested in is one I just bought recently. Sand Land. lol, oh well. That said, I heard Stalker is decent? A few of the others I don't know much about, so I can look into it.

Battlefield V…… LOL. Well, at least it ain’t Battlefield 2042. That game is the reason I’ll never buy another Battlefield game within a year of it’s launch

STALKER? right after the free upgrade was mentioned? I was going to unbox my PS4 copy tonight. Now I don't have to. Also someone on here mentioned Sand Land not too long ago, I'll take that too.

It's a good month but just not for me as I've completed Sand Land, Granblue and Soul Hackers 2. But for those who like JRPG's or want to get into them then I Soul Hackers 2 and Sand Land are excellent games.

Premium is a shocker again, if it wasn't for my Portal I wouldn't be subscribed to premium at all.

Absolutely awful as usual this service needs either improve or be scrapped it's pathetic essential on the other hand is great gamepass is absolutely amazing as well I'd honestly rather buy my games than pay for this every month especially ps5 exclusives

I've wanted to play Sandland for a year or so but didn't want to pay for it so it's good that it's coming to Extra, same with Soul Hackers 2(even though it's on deep sale all the time) and Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising. The Extra games aren't that bad.

I still don't understand how people get mad about the Premium offers. When Sony announced they would add Playstation Classics on the Premium tier I always knew that they would do the bare minimum because I don't think they care if you play PS1/PS2 games on a PS5 unless it's a remaster of those games.

I only play a few PS2 games on my PS3/PS4 nowadays and I'm sure Sony think's most people don't bother to play old games on the PS5, that's probably why they half ass the classics.

I do wish they'd remaster some PS3 Classics though(Infamous and Resistance, Killzone too).

Oh wow they're really drip feeding Premium titles now huh. But besides that if I had extra this is a great month. Especially with GBFVSR being a huge highlight imo here, but Sand Land, Soul Hackers 2, Humankind, all games I've been wanting to try, so I would definitely say this is a quality month

Oh nice! I wanted to get Sand Land in Japan (dual language confirmed, about 1/3 the price of Australia 2nd hand) but now I don't need to.

Not the greatest month and the only thing I’m interested in is the stalker games but I already bought them a while ago. The lack of premium support is just unacceptable

Humankind dragging this month just above worst update to date. Thought it looked interesting when it went to gamepass, never heard about it since release so perhaps it wasn't great but I'm interested enough to give it a go.
Stalker I have a passing interest in but I think i recalling hearing they were very buggy on release, might give that a go if it runs okay. Other than that a complete swing and a miss.

A lot of people renew their subs next month, my only hope is that they've maybe held back a deal or two until next month to make a bigger splash because a repeat of this month isn't going to go down well.

Wow thats got to be a contender for the worst list, especially for premium. Gamepass got some major games.

Gloomhaven is a good game but very niche as it is a full fledged board game. That said it's easily 200+ hours worth of content.

Gloomhaven kind of looks like if Warhamer ChaosBane did Baldur's gate. The trailer really did say 'get rich or die trying', I didn't know 50 Cent was involved and yet it's got me curious.

That third tier should be named Scamium

@Ilyn As a boardgame-game, do the environments open up/can they be traversed like regular levels in say Diablo? or is it all in one set location. I never played a boardgame before but I'm always on the lookout for a new genre to try.

@GirlVersusGame I have only played a bit of the PC version, but I have played all of the Boardgame.

For the environments they have recreated them all in 3d but they have retained the look and feel of the board game tiles which is laid out on a hexagonal grid. As for the play style it's all turn based where you can control a party of up to four adventures and the missions scale up per player. The actual turns are carried out by choosing cards from each characters deck which form your initiative order and two actions which you can carry out. As for the story it has a start and end point but along the way you have random events and decisions which unlock various routes and side stuff so it's very open. Also as you play characters will retire and you unlock new more advanced classes for your party.

It's fairly heavy in terms of thinking, but the console version streamlines so many rules and manages the busy work for you. So it's at least worth trying out as a plus game if you are interested in how it sounds.

They are also currently making Frosthaven into a game which was the sequel, so if you enjoy them there will be much more to play in future.

Anyone play Gloomhaven? I've not, but am interested. If you have and understand the trophies, what is it about them that makes the platinum so challenging?

Contrary to others, I think this is a great month for Extra - Sandland looks fantastic, Gloomhaven I’m intrigued by, and Seasons looks pretty. All games I’ve wanted to try but haven’t had the money to pick up.

@Ilyn Thanks for the long detailed reply. Fairly heavy on thinking definitely sounds like a bonus. The one thing I love about Plus+ is that I always find a game I never heard of before and they sometimes turn out to be a lot of fun. I think I'll give it a go. Most of the genres I enjoy came from random Plus+ listings, this one already looks promising.

@ItsAlwaysSunnyyy having had a quick look through the list a part of it would be that there are character specific trophies but you are not guaranteed to unlock all characters as the game was designed so you never discover everything. I think I'm my board game play through we maybe had 5 characters which we never unlocked. And we didn't use all the ones we unlocked either, and some we retired very very fast.

I can’t believe I paid for a year of premium back in the autumn sale. Lesson learned. PS Plus is absolute garbage. Never again.

@GirlVersusGame no worries, as to a point I missed in my original message the game is set around the city of gloomhaven. At the start you have 1 area out side of the city to visit. As you progress however you can discover up to about 120 areas outside of the city and maybe 30 in the city.

These areas vary from caves, open hills, sewers, buildings and each mission has a written story intro like an old fashioned dungeon adventure. There are also around 30 enemy types with normal and elite enemies for lots of variety.

Edit: one other fun thing is that even tho you are a party, you are not really a party all working towards the same goal. Each character gets a mission goal and they can actually work against the other at times to reflect it being a group who are together by circumstance rather than a friendly group of D&D characters

They need to just kill premium and roll it into Extra. Even then wouldn’t be a great month but definitely will drop Premium come renewal unless something major changes.

There is usually a few games that I'd play but this is the worst selection thus far. Awful choice of games.

Decent month for me! Now I can keep my physical copies of Sand Land & Granblue Fantasy sealed and play the PS Plus versions instead.

I never finished Soul Hackers 2, so I can go back to that without having to put the disc in.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. looks interesting, so I'll definitely check that out.

This is pretty bad, but. Man is. Feel even worse for those folks still paying into premium. What an under delivering overpriced scam that turned out to be, more so than this price inxlcreased tiered out monstrosity is as a whole.

I wish ps classics games would get all GTA Stories, The Scarface and The godfather games...

I’m wondering if people are even using the classics catalogue at this point considering how few are being added.

Oh come on battlefield has been on sale so many times now I've seen it for like £4 for the whole lot glad I dropped to the lowest tier

The other tier prices just ain't worth it the classics hasnt had much in a form of updates for months. I don't stream games and I hardly play online I just resubbed to play RoboCop and savings on sales

To make the PS Classics issue even worse, Battle Engine Aquila is actually available on Steam and could probably run on any computer since Windows Vista. Why not use it for some of the many, many inaccessible titles that are unavailable on modern platforms and are rare and expensive?

So we lose 20 and get half that. Seems logical.

Lets hope the reason for adding only 1 game to Premium is that they have something during Days of Play, but if not then this is by far the worst month for Premium ever.

@Ilyn I have the board game but I haven't played it yet, as I find it a bit intimidating to get to grips with. Would playing the PS5 game give me a good tutorial in how to play the tabletop version?

@Dislecksier I get what you mean as we did struggle to get to grips with the rules originally, and ended up playing some wrong as its very overwhelming. Whilst the Game version will make the rules simpler I am not sure if it will make understanding al of them easier as you will never see them, if that makes sense.

For general play however it should make it a bit easier. Also there is a pretty good app you can get for a phone which helps manage aspects of the rules when playing the boardgame.

I learned to ignore the "this is the worst month ever" coments because people will usually just complain for just about anything.
But this month they are specially stupid. I mean, its outrageous that theres only one game for premium this month (which I do agree is a waste of money, specially in countries that do not have the option to stream games) but Extra tier is superb this month. (and I say this as someone who only has essential since i straigh up buy most of my games)
Sand Land is great, Humanity is a banger, BFV is the best WWII MP game ever made (with a pretty good SP campaign), Soul Hackers 2 is a great RPG and Granblue is an Arc game, which just means that its a VERY solid fighter.

But most of all.
Legends of the Zone trilogy is worth the entry price by itself, holy ***** what a fantastic trilogy, my GOTY of last year for sure. if you are complaining about this you really have no taste in games.

@Deadhunter My point was people paying for Premium should not be surprised that Sony isn't putting a lot of classic Playstation games on it. I feel like everyone knew when they announced that Premium was going to have PS1/PS2/PSP games on it that Sony would do the bare minimum with those games.

Sony will never do 4-6 games every few months for Premium unless a major change happens. Them releasing 1-2 games every few months and them sometimes being random ass games is something that they would do since it's the Bare Minimum. They sometimes do a lot if it lines of with a new game in that series coming out or a remaster.

People complaining about Old games(and I love playing PS2 games here and there) not being playable on there PS5 probably doesn't really matter to Sony. They want you to play last gen/current gen.

@Deadhunter I mean Premium to me has always seemed like a way for Sony to get extra money out of who will hope to play more classics. I've had Extra for years and have never picked up Premium because I know Sony won't make it worth it.

I love Extra because they add games to it that I want to play. Premium doesn't do anything to make it worth it.
