Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 578

Nothing new out that's grabbed me so I'm replaying Dragon Age: Inquisition. First time since its release - just like books, I enjoy replaying/rereading after a decade or so to see how my perception's changed. I'm about 85 hours in this replay, & according to my PS5, that makes it over 500 played hours in total!!

Finished DQIII - what a ton of fun it was!! Am very much looking forward to the release of the I & II combo pack now (is it out yet?!)! Nothing out this second that's on sale or caught my attention at full price. I am curious about Centum - looks interesting; will check out the reviews (it releases Mar. 11). Wishing everyone a super weekend!! ðŸ˜ļ

I'm a bit over 30 hours into DQIII now. Boy, is this game a ton of fun!! What wasn't fun was my controller ceasing to hold a charge. It was working fine when I finished Metaphor. But when I started DQIII, I could only play for about 2 1/2 hours before the console said my controller's out of juice. What surprised me about this is that the controller is only about 2 1/2 years old. Hope the new one I picked up lasts longer!!

Started Dragon Quest III HD-2D remake Sunday. What a ton of fun this game is!!! I started my gaming life on PS1 & have only owned Sony's systems. So this is my first play-through of it. I don't understand how this wasn't nominated all over the place for remake of the year - they did a beautiful job!! I'm only 18 hours in - will give follow-up comments in a few weeks.

130 saved hours later, I finished Metaphor yesterday. Imo, it was a perfect ending to a damn-near perfect game. I consider it Atlus' best game thus far. 👏🏞

Knowing I was nearing the end, I ordered Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake on Amazon. What's going on with Amazon?! Back in October I ordered a keyboard & it took them a month to ship it. Now the site's saying the same thing for this order. I understand that since I don't have Prime & use the free shipping option, they're going to intentionally delay sending it out, but in the 20 years I've been using them, it was normally a week, week & a half delay (which I'm fine with) - this month or better BS is just that. SMH.

Re: Game of the Year: Best PS5 Indie Game of 2024

JbumiSandra

Not only is it my Indie GOTY, it's my overall #2 (Metaphor being my personal GOTY) - Capes. It's not the greatest story of all time, but it's a solid story. The characters are excellent; the gameplay is inventive - tactical with gameplay based on these characters' unique abilities; the voice acting (across the board) rivals any AAA game. I cannot recommend this game highly enough! ðŸ˜ŧ

Re: Poll: What Are Your Gaming Plans for the Holidays?

JbumiSandra

Hopefully traveling tomorrow for the holidays (ðŸĪžðŸ― - it's weather-dependent). That'll mean no time for gaming!! Metaphor will wait for me (about 90 hours in; just defeated Sogne), but while I'll be loving visiting, a small part of me will be missing Euchronia!!

Wishing all a lovely rest of the year & a fantastic '25!

Re: PEGI Won't Budge on Balatro's Ridiculously Bloated European Age Rating

JbumiSandra

PEGI argues that it deserves the 18 because it teaches how to play poker hands, knowledge which could be "transferred to a real-life game of poker". ðŸĪĶðŸ―â€â™€ïļ By this argument, 99% of ALL games should be rated 18. Mario teaches kids how to effectively jump on people's heads. Any game with weapons teaches kids how to harm others. Pac Man teaches that biting's ok. And we here in the US thought the ESRB was bad! ðŸĪŠ

Finished Capes this morning. I really enjoyed it. Being the Queen of Save Scummers, I usually don't like games with only one save slot, but I was ok with it here. I enjoy both linear & open world games so the very linearity of this didn't bother me at all. I'm not a graphics whore so the B graphics didn't irk me in the least. The gameplay was a ton of fun - if you're big into tactical games & want something different than your usual mage, fighter, rogue, et al, this game provides that in spades. Each character has their own abilities, & it really is "easy learn, hard to master" so you're always engaged! I liked the story/writing, but have one question about the end I wish I could ask the writers about (no spoilers). The voice acting is excellent - I've played AAA games where it wasn't this good!! All in all, it's the best game released this year that I've played! 👍🏞 For the record, it's only the 3rd game released this year I've played. If I was to put them in order of enjoyment, it'd be: 1. Capes 2. Solasta: Crown of the Magister 3. Sea of Stars

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 543

They updated Capes!! The balancing issue is resolved!! According to what I've read online (they never did respond to me), it also adds storylines. I'm just happy I can advance now. Once the patch is downloaded, you have to delete your save (only one save spot in this game) & start over. I was fine with that since I was essentially stuck. The game flows much better now - I'm just past where I'd been stuck.

I've had a tough year & this more linear game is just what I need right now. I feel like I'm playing a comic book - fun times!!

Will update later when I've played more!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 542

No-one at Daedalic ever got back to me regarding the balancing patch for Capes. Their automated response telling me they'd get back to me was sent to me July 22. I do keep checking for the console update, but it hasn't been released. It's been a tough year for me financially - lots of unexpected expenditures. So, instead of spending more money, I'm replaying Divinity: Original Sin. Haven't played it since 2015 (per the trophy dates!) - so, just about the right amount of time's passed for me to enjoy it all over again!!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 538

JbumiSandra

I was interested in Capes, but had read it had balancing issues. Then I saw a post that said it'd been patched (on PC) in late June. I figured the patch had probably made its way to consoles by now. It has not, & the balancing issues, at least for me, have made it unprogressable. I emailed Daedalic Entertainment (as I cannot find a contact address for Spitfire) to see if they'd give me an estimate as to when the patch might arrive, but they haven't responded. It's a shame - I think there's a fun game hiding in there.
So I'm giving them until the end of the Olympics (I like the winter games, but LOVE the summer ones!) to release the patch or I cut my losses & move on to another game.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 534

Haven't played (until today) in 3 weeks. First I was sitting a heartbreaking death watch for my friend of 45 years. Thankfully, she went peacefully. Then the stress, not eating & sleeping properly & just all-around mess of things got me sick as a dog. Yesterday was the first day I started feeling much better (thank you, antibiotics!).

Anyway, reacquainted myself with Sea of Stars this morning. Every time I play it, the word that comes to mind is that it's a charming RPG. I think I'm somewhere between a third & halfway through.

Solasta's really gotten its hooks into me! But today is one of the few days a year I intentionally take off to enjoy another hobby. The 2000 Guineas in the UK happens in about an hour. The Kentucky Derby in about 10. Plus there're a ton of undercard races at both venues to enjoy! Already have the DVR running!! Will get back to Solasta tomorrow (with a side of the 1000 Guineas!)!

Playing the Game of Life!! Have a wedding to go to later this morning. Planning on partying to the break of dawn!!! ðŸ’ƒðŸ― Will probably resume gaming Monday (one of the perks of being retired!!). Even though I'm not deep into it yet, I'm developing an addiction to Solasta: Crown of the Magister (like all the games I've really enjoyed, I find myself thinking about it when I'm not playing).

Wishing everyone a great weekend!

Re: Feature: Push Square Readers' Top 10 PS5 Games of 2024 So Far

JbumiSandra

Didn't vote in the poll because I just finished BG3 a couple weeks ago so hadn't played anything from 2024 yet. Started Solasta: Crown of the Magister a few days ago, & so far (much too early to give a proper opinion yet) it's the perfect palette cleanser after living with BG3 so long (started it in Nov.)! 👍🏞
